If you have ever watched Comedy on TV or at a concert and thought, "That looks easy, I could do that too!", you are not alone. Many of those who love comedy and perform Stand-up thought that at one time or another (and many of us still do)

Most Comedians go through years of performing in small clubs and smoky bars, waiting in line at open mics to get a three minute slot in front of a bunch of drunks who don't even realize you are on stage.

Then they hone these skills til they get their first good ten minutes of material together. This could take months or years. If they are lucky and good then they get a middle slot or someday a headliner slot in a show.

So now you may wonder how you can even dream of doing comedy, it's too time and cost consuming to travel to London or NY to get stage time at an open mic.

And more and more people are wanting to see...
English and American style Stand-up Comedy?

Pay attention to how many American and British sitcoms are now dominating the German TV stations. Germany's SAT 1 just started airing unsynchronised episodes of various british Comedy Shows. Comedy Central just moved to germany and now shows Comedy 24 /7.

As host and creator of "Hollywood's Comedy Nights", the first all English Stand-Up Comedy Club in Germany, I see the demand for English Comedy shows growing. But even more so, the demand for good english speaking Comedians is growing!

Our show is celebrating it's 5th Anniversary this year and we just started our second show in Bonn and will be expanding into other cities in Germany. Over the years we have brought in talent from all over the globe. Everywhere from Norway, UK, Canada, Australia, NZ, USA, Denmark, Egypt, Holland and even Germany. Unfortunately that is a very costly endeavour.

But even worse, is the fact that we have such an enormous untapped source of good talent right here in Germany. With so many people like yourself, Expats or other English speaking Comedy fans, we have an unheard of potential.

After each of our English shows we are approached by someone who "can do that too" or thinks they can be funnier than the comedians we had on stage. We decided to give them a chance and periodically let them try out their "Stuff" on stage. We frequently regretted it.

It was obvious that many had talent but had never read any of the books on doing comedy or had no talent and had just blatanly stolen the material right out of the comedy books. We could either tell them to do some studying or take a comedy course.

And if that's not enough...

The challenge is that most of the comedy coaching and courses available here in Germany are in the German language. Now that is great if you are capable of speaking the language and want to perform German style comedy like New Jersyian comedian John Doyle

But if you are like us, you might have already had a challenge learning the language and aquiring the gramatical elequency to get through a sentence without being reprimanded or corrected. Besides which, being funny in your native language is so much easier.

And if that were not not enough, our English / American humour doesn't always translate well into German. Not to mention what I personally call the "Grammatik Polizei"© or "Sprachen Stasi"© who sit in the audience and refuse to laugh at your perfectly crafted joke because you used the wrong article. I won't repeat what I tell them. (and it doesn't have an article!)

So what do we do then?

We are aware that almost all newcomers to the comedy stage make the same mistakes when performing for the first time. And we have experienced dozens of successful Comedians and we know what's funny and what's not.

Now we will admit that there are other possibilities to learn how to do Stand-up comedy. There are numerous books about that subject on the market, some good, some great and the others.. let's just say "nay!" But there you will have to limit your rehearsals to a group of stuffed animals or dirty clothes laying on the couch. (and they give such poor feedback.)
